Apistan offers simple protection from Varroa mites (Varroa destructor) , and it remains a popular choice with beekeepers. Just insert two strips into your Brood Box for the recommended period, any honey supers must be removed before treatment. The strips are normally left in the hive for 6 weeks to cover two brood cycles. Apistan is packed in pouches of 10 strips, 2 strips per hive. Each pouch is suitable for 5 hives. Each strip containing 824mg tau-fluvalinate. For honeybees only.
Suspend strips mid-way between the brood frames so that the bees can walk on each side of the strip. One strip is suspended between frame 3&4 and the other between frame 7&8 within the brood chamber. Small colonies and nuclei require one strip only suspended near the centre of the brood box.
Mis-use of pyrethroids has led to resistant mites in some areas, please check with your local association or visit Apistan: Varroa Control | Vita Bee Health (vita-europe.com) to see how to perform a "rule of thumb" test.
It is recommended to rotate your treatments every two to three years between different chemical classes.
